Consumer Reports: Where to Find the Lowest Dog Food Prices

Recently, Consumer Reports ShopSmart looked at where the best dog food prices could be found. It was no surprise to find that the lowest prices were not at PetSmart or Petco, but at Walmart and Target.

Walmart and Target are the best places to find low dog food prices, and the difference in price was usually at least several dollars Consumer Reports found.

The original study looked at who had the lowest prices on 23 different pet products. Just a couple of examples include:

Meow Mix Original Choice
Petco: $7
Target: $4

Milk-Bone Dog Treats
Petco: $6.50
Walmart: $2.50

Consumer Reports ShopSmart said that supermarkets usually priced their dog food in-between that of Walmart and Petco/PetSmart.

It also found that PetSmart prices were about 13% cheaper then Petco's.

As far as online dog food prices go, Petfooddirect.com usually charged about 50% more then the lowest price they were able to find at Walmart.
